Tokopedia’s Senior Data Analyst Chyntia Megawati presented Applying Theoretical Knowledge in the Thriving E-commerce Industry “Application of Operation Research in E-Commerce Industry” general lecture on February 27th, 2020. At the event, the expert shared some of her keys to success with Sampoerna University’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) students.

She put an emphasis on the importance of data-driven decision making. A good decision according to her must follow four stages: Descriptive (what happened?), Diagnostic (why did it happen?), Predictive (what will happen?), and Prescriptive Stage (what’s the best solution?). All these are included in Analytics (the process of extracting value from the data).

She also explained the life cycle of analytics projects that involve several aspects. This encompasses business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, modelling, evaluation, and deployment. To give more picture about this, she gave examples of analytics in several case studies.

After theoretical knowledge is mastered well, the next stage to be a good data analyst is investing time on online learning. “There are also many other things I didn’t learn in school. So please be open minded,” she said.

As a senior data analyst at one of the leading marketplaces in Indonesia, Chyntia Megawati received a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering Major (Operations Research concentration) from the Ohio State University. Prior to that she earned her bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Universitas Indonesia. (*/)
